Hi Unity Users! This week’s digest includes info about upcoming workshops and a Unity maintenance period…
🛠️ Unity Maintenance Period
In order to perform a repair and reboot of one of the main storage arrays, Unity will be offline from 5 am to 5 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Please download any data you need from Unity for Sept. 23 before the maintenance period. As a reminder, you should always have backups to another location in your normal workflow regardless.
Your job will not start if the time limit overlaps with the start of maintenance. Use the -t flag on Slurm to set a time limit that shortens your job to fit into the acceptable window. You can also add --deadline=2026-09-23 to your job so it removes itself from the queue if it will not run before maintenance.
🧑💻 Unity Onboarding Sessions
The Unity facilitation team is hosting two Unity onboarding sessions on Sept. 17 and Sept. 25! These workshops are intended for new users, but all Unity users are welcome.
Topics covered include logging on via SSH and Unity OnDemand, submitting batch and interactive command-line Slurm jobs, using the Unity OnDemand graphical applications (JupyterLab, RStudio, etc), and using the Unity OnDemand job composer.
The workshops will be held remotely via Zoom. Go to the Events tab to view upcoming events and register for them.
🗓️ University of Rhode Island Fall Workshops
The University of Rhode Island’s Artificial Intelligence (URI AI) Lab is hosting workshops throughout the Fall 2026 semester, and the Unity community is encouraged to attend!
Workshops cover topics like Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science, Generative AI, and Programming Languages such as R and Python.
View the News post on URI workshops and the Events tab for more information.
❗ Update to /tmp Directory
We have started daily purges of the /tmp directory on the login nodes for files older than one week.
